Dear Friends of TOUCH,
My name is Ngee Khiam and I am 61 years old. I am a client of TOUCH Home Care, a service of TOUCH Community Services, and a beneficiary of your generous donations. This festive season, I would like to share my story to encourage the donors, volunteers and staff of TOUCH who have supported me.
I was born with polio and I have small legs. Since young, I had to crawl to move around as my legs are not strong enough to help me walk. As I got older, I struggled to care for myself. It was very challenging for me to participate in daily routines like going to the toilet or to buy food from the coffeeshop below my home.
Two years ago, I was referred to the home care service of TOUCH which provides services such as home medical, nursing and rehabilitation services. When the TOUCH staff came to my place, the first thing they did was to clean up my home. They also arranged for food to be delivered to me daily and accompanied me to the hospital for medical appointments.
I was so excited when TOUCH organised an outing to Gardens by the Bay for me and the other homebound elderly in March this year! It has been 20 years since I last stepped out of my home.
I am very grateful to the nurses and occupational therapist. With their support, I am able to live in the familiar comforts of my own home. This Christmas, I hope that you will consider making a donation to TOUCH, so that more frail and homebound seniors like me can receive the required support to age with dignity.
Thank you for giving, I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas!
Liew Ngee Khiam
