Mdm Wee Ah Bee is 73. She is a widow and childless. She lives in a one-room HDB rental flat. Finances are tight but she gets by.
A few years ago, she cared for her elderly brother who was terminally ill. When he died, she battled depression and suicidal thoughts. She slowly recovered after patient support from staff and volunteers from TOUCH Senior Activity Centre (TSAC).
To keep her days occupied with meaningful activities, she volunteered to help other seniors in need. But soon after, her husband was struck with cancer, and as his sole caregiver, she did everything for him even while suffering from the effects of hypertension and asthma.
Her husband passed on in January this year. Mdm Wee was overcome with grief and felt empty and lost. After some time, with TSAC’s support coupled with her resilient spirit, she picked herself up again and is back volunteering at TSAC to help other frail and needy seniors.
The support of TOUCH allows seniors like Mdm Wee to overcome challenges and live their golden years with grace and dignity.
